Active Brake Assist 6, Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist, MirrorCam and 360° camera system – at the Driving Experience 2024 event in Madrid in mid-March, the new safety and assistance systems from Daimler Buses took centre stage. At the Circuito del Jarama motorsport race track near Madrid, participants had the opportunity to sit behind the wheel of the latest Setra buses and coaches to experience the assistance and camera systems for themselves.
Setra impresses with its safety features.
With their safety and assistance systems, Setra vehicles provide the highest level of safety.
Powerful modern drive systems.
They were also impressed by the powerful drive systems of the Setra MultiClass LE, the Setra TopClass S 516 HDH, the Setra ComfortClass and the Setra double-decker touring coach S 531 DT. The multi-day event's programme was rounded off with live presentations and a demonstration of the real-time evaluation and analysis of vehicle data by the OMNIplus ON fleet management system.
Not only do Setra buses and coaches boast exceptional design and the highest level of comfort, but the topic of safety has also always played a significant role for the Daimler Buses brand. For decades, Setra has been setting standards in terms of safety technology and has always provided the best available technology in its vehicles long before regulatory requirements were introduced. Most recently, a wealth of new assistance systems were presented at the Busworld Europe 2023 trade fair in Brussels, from Active Brake Assist 6 to Sideguard Assist 2 and Frontguard Assist, all the way through to MirrorCam and 360° camera system.
“Our new safety systems in all vehicle variants set the latest standard and as a result, all Setra buses and coaches – both in touring and scheduled service – boast the highest levels of safety.”
Protection for vulnerable road users.
In order to further increase safety in road traffic, especially for vulnerable road users such as cyclists and pedestrians, the updated General Safety Regulation (GSR) of the EU will require a whole range of driver assistance systems for newly registered buses from July 2024. These include Blind Spot Assist on the front passenger side and in front of the vehicle for short-range detection, traffic sign recognition for speed control, attention assistant, tyre pressure monitoring system, reversing monitoring, a light signal in the event of emergency braking as well as an interface for an optional breathalyser (Alcohol Interlock).
Safety that goes above and beyond the legal requirements.
These smart electronic assistants help to keep serious consequences arising from moments of inattentiveness to a minimum. This benefits drivers and passengers, as well as all other road users, regardless of whether they are travelling by car, bicycle or on foot in road traffic. With its assistance systems, Daimler Buses goes above and beyond the requirements set by the EU and in some cases even expands the safety functions significantly beyond the level required by the GSR from 2024.
“From July 2024 the GSR will require a whole range of driver assistance systems for newly registered vehicles.”
New MirrorCam for buses and coaches.
A highlight in Madrid was the MirrorCam. Behind the wheel of the vehicles on the handling course and on defined routes – both on the Circuito del Jarama race track and on public roads – participants experienced first hand the safety advantages of the optional 360° camera system and the new, also optional MirrorCam.
