Setra and safety – they go hand in hand. The new Setra MultiClass 500 also leads the way in the intercity bus segment. How? With LED lamps as standard, the new active brake assistant Preventive Brake Assist 2, the second generation of Sideguard Assist and smart PPC cruise control, to name just a few top safety features. From 2024, a wide range of additional assistance and safety systems will be added – as well as the option of MirrorCam instead of the conventional exterior mirrors. It is plain to see: when the new Setra model series was being developed, safety took top priority.
Safe across the board.
The new Setra MultiClass 500: the safety intercity bus.
Preventive Brake Assist 2 even safer, even more powerful.
The second generation of the Preventive Brake Assist active brake assistant warns of a collision with stationary or moving objects. The system keeps a particularly close eye on pedestrians and cyclists at junctions. Furthermore, it automatically initiates partial braking in the event of an acute collision risk. The warning cascade and braking intervention are precisely designed for use in urban regular service operations and for the protection of standing passengers.
Preventive Brake Assist 2 will be optionally available for all models of the new Setra MultiClass 500 LE from January 2024. This is yet another milestone, above all for the protection of more vulnerable road users.
New safety level: Sideguard Assist 2 and Frontguard Assist.
What is more, the second generation of the turning assistant Sideguard Assist is also in preparation for the new MultiClass 500. It gives an even more precise warning if there is a risk of collision with pedestrians or cyclists. Previously available for the door side, it will also be available for use for the driver’s side in the future. When there are pedestrians or cyclists directly in front of the vehicle, the new Frontguard Assist really comes into its own. Together, both assistants form the optimal all-round warning system. It is effective support for the driver, especially in busy urban and suburban traffic.
The ultimate classic: 360° camera system.
The optionally available 360° camera system offers even more clarity. It provides the driver with a perfect all-round view from a bird’s-eye perspective, a huge advantage when manoeuvring, for example. With the 360° camera system, the driver can see pedestrians, cyclists and obstacles, even in areas where the surroundings are difficult or impossible to see.
New perspective: MirrorCam instead of exterior mirrors.
The driver of the new MultiClass 500 LE now has the option of using the new MirrorCam. The images from the cameras are transmitted to monitors in 15-inch format. The benefit to you: Extended field of vision for the driver, significantly better visibility in the dark, less dirt on your vehicle, less manoeuvring damage and a further reduction in fuel consumption thanks to a smaller frontal area.
Visibly safe: LED lamps as standard.
The MultiClass 500 LE's full LED lamps as standard not only look attractive, they also offer excellent light. This is important for an intercity bus in its many journeys during the winter and off-peak times. They also save electricity and improve the vehicle's service life, a significant cost and safety factor. The optional surround lighting supports the driver when reversing.
Smarter driving: with cruise control and speed warning.
The latest variant of the assistance system Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) also ensures efficiency, helping your drivers stay relaxed at the wheel. PPC automatically reduces the speed when entering towns as well as before tight bends on country roads or obstacles such as roundabouts and stop or give way signs. The result: anticipatory driving that adapts to the vehicle's surroundings. Traffic Sign Assist is also new. This assistant warns the driver if the maximum permissible speed is being exceeded.
Greater safety is now standard.
The Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPM) system and Attention Assist (AtAs) have been adopted as standard equipment.
Exemplary passive safety.
Despite all the assistance and safety systems, accidents can never be avoided. The developers of the new Setra MultiClass 500 have taken this into account as well. An underride guard reduces the effects of a rear-end or head-on collision, protecting both the driver and the occupants of the other vehicle.
The body shell in a frame design is light and stable in equal measure. The robust frame design creates a protective cocoon. As a result, the MultiClass 500 meets the requirements of ECE R 66.02 for the roll-over test. The developers also voluntarily put the vehicle through the pendulum impact test according to ECE R 29/03 A. As part of this challenging test, the vehicle is expected to withstand a 1.5-tonne steel plate. The new Setra MultiClass 500 passed with flying colours; the defined survival space for the driver remained intact.
The results are clear: The new Setra MultiClass 500 is safe across the board. It is a true Setra, a true safety inter-city bus.
